Mark

As we all see today as we watch public television, or the news media of any kind. The major topic this time of year seems to be politics. As we watch these people run for their various offices today, its almost inevitable that they use "mudslinging" and degrading their oponates. Rather than building their own Campaigns on their own accomplishments, the seem to build on the destruction of character of others.

Taylor

Not only does this apply to the political world, but also back in our personal lives. Instead of looking to the positive of others we seem to bring forth the negative side of those around us also, almost to make ourselves "seem better". So in actuality by destroying someone else's character we are really only hurting ourselves, by doing the same thing we accuse them of doing.

In a round about way this brings us to the topic of Gossip. If you really think about it, what does Gossip really do for us? What benefit is it to us to speak poorly of others, and to speak of things that do not even apply to ourself. But instead we should be lifting one another up, and encouraging one another as well. If someone is sinning or struggling with something, who are we to speak against them? Instead we should see our brother, or sister in need, praying for them, encouraging, and asking, begging to help them.

For one day, we too will be in the position of need, or humility, and looking for a helping hand from a brother or sister in Christ.

Ephesians. 4:26 - 5:2

26BE ANGRY, AND yet DO NOT SIN; do not let the sun go down on your anger,

27and do not give the devil an opportunity.

28He who steals must steal no longer; but rather he must labor, performing with his own hands what is good, so that he will have something to share with one who has need.

29Let no unwholesome word proceed from your mouth, but only such a word as is good for edification according to the need of the moment, so that it will give grace to those who hear.

30Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.

31Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice.

32Be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving each other, just as God in Christ also has forgiven you.

Ephesians 5

1Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children;

2and walk in love, just as Christ also loved you and gave Himself up for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God as a fragrant aroma.

As we go through these next few weeks, or months listening to all the negativity, mudslinging, character bashing on TV, dont make these the example that we live by. Instead living by the word of God!
